Bagels of New York
In the bagel category, there is certainly no shortage of options. Bagel options are as frequent here as 99 cent pizza slices. Want BEC on a bagel? You got it. PB & J? Done. Lox and schmear, obviously.
Russ & Daughters, Tompkins Square and Black Seed are probably the three most quintessential NYC bagels to eat on any given visit. For the widest variety of smoked salmon: check out Russ & Daughters. Searching for a new flavour of cream cheese? Tompkins has you covered. Want that chewy, slightly sweet taste of Montreal? Head to Black Seed.
But while each of these are undoubtedly great in their own way, Tompkins is always my favourite stop for a crisp-on-the-outside, chewy-on-the-inside, true New York City style bagel. Because, let's be honest: I didn't come to NYC to have Montreal bagels.
And one word of advice: be cautious with your smoked salmon choices. It has become crystal clear that smoked salmon on a bagel with flavoured cream cheese can easily run you $16+ at any of the mentioned places. Tomatoes are extra too.
